January 15th 2009 - Digicel gives away 2 more vans!Winners to launch PMV service in POM and Kokopo
Thursday January 15, 2008 – Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea: Digicel, the fastest growing mobile operator in the Pacific, today gave away two more vans as part of its ongoing Text to Win competition, leaving just 2 more vans to be won before end of January.
Last Sunday Andrew Simeon was added to the growing Digicel winners gallery, when he was announced as the sixth winner on live on radio. 40 year old Andrew, from Irupara in the Rigo District of Central Province is an accountant with the Lands Department.
Andrew was handed the keys to his van at Boroko Motors, Waigani, POM, on Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile, at Boroko Motors Kokopo, 23-year old Vincent Lasuit ended the wait for his keys, receiving his van on Thursday, after being drawn as one of Digicel’s winners just before Christmas.
Currently residing at the Pacific Adventist University, Andrew Simeon and his family were driving home for the weekend when he received a life-altering phone call.
He said
“I was lost for words; I didn’t know what to do nor felt what I was feeling as I had a mixture of emotions rushing to burst out at the one time”.
Simeon continued “I cannot thank Digicel enough for this brilliant initiative - a very beneficial competition indeed!”
Vincent Lasuit is a 3rd year student majoring in Building the University of Technology, Lae, but hailing from Balanataman in ENB.
Like many of the previous winners, Andrew and Vincent will use the van as a PMV, generating additional income for themselves and their families.
Mr. Simeon plans to run routes from his village to Port Moresby, and add another option to help his neighbours commute in and around NCD.
Vincent Lasuit’s tale, however, is tainted by personal grief. He says
“Since both my parents have passed away I have been living under the care and support of his elder brother Oben.
“With this van I can earn some extra money to fund my studies, help my family, and reduce the burden on my big brother.”
Digicel will give away two more vans, with the winners to be drawn on January 18 and 25 live on radio.
Meanwhile, Digicel is also giving away K100,000 in school fees – 200 prizes of K500 each – to anyone who purchases a new handset with SIM pack between January 14 and January 31. Anyone who buys a new handset with new SIM, or standalone SIM pack, between January 14th and 31st and then makes a call or SMS in January – it doesn’t matter to who, so long as the new phone and/or SIM is activated – then that number is automatically entered into the draw for the school fee prizes.
