A father of three in Lae is K25, 000 richer thanks to Digicel’s ‘SMS Santa’ Promotion as announced at the Digicel office in Lae recently.

The proud winner is Robert Opo who hails from Jiwaka Province and is the assistant manager of the May Bank branch in Lae. He is one of many proud Digicel customers and couldn’t believe his luck after receiving a call from Digicel two weeks ago regarding his win in this Christmas promotion.

He recalled being at his home when his Digicel phone rang. He said; “I was lost for words when I received the news. I couldn’t believe it when Digicel told me this good news. I played the game but did not expect to win so the news was just as much, a surprise to me.”

“I kept repeating the word K25, 000 over my head as the win just too much for me and, my brain could not register the news at that instant,” he laughs.

Robert thanked Digicel for the prize money win which he said will be a big boost to him and his family and, for making communications affordable and better for all it’s customers in PNG.

“Digicel is definitely a mobile network for the grassroots and I am proud to be associated with PNG’s bigger, better network,” he added.

Digicel’s Operations Director-Lorna McPherson congratulated Robert on his win and comments; “We are proud to yet again give away a great price to another of our wonderful customer. Robert plans on using part of his prize money on his children’s school fees and family commitments this year. However, he said that he is yet to decide on what he wants to do with the rest of his money.

The Digicel ‘SMS Santa’ Promotion was launched on the 6th of December, 2011 and ended on the 24th of the same month. This promotion allowed subscribers to search and collect Santa’s lost Christmas goodies from their mobile phone by sending the keyword “SANTA” to short code 204.

Participants were allowed to search as many times as they wished with one single objective; to collect the most Xmas Goodies which included Santa’’s sleigh, one of Santa’’s Elves, his belt and many more in order to gain points. The lucky customer who was ranked number 1 at 11:59 pm on December 24, 2011 won the major prize of K25, 000. Runner up prizes for the SMS Santa Promotion were K8, 000 for rank 2 and K5, 000 for rank 3.Minor prizes included instant free K1 credits.
