DIGICEL PNG BEGINS PRE-REGISTRATION FOR INNOVATIVE CELLMONI MOBILE BANKING SERVICE

June 27th 2011 - Customers will be able to transfer money, pay bills and lodge and withdraw cash from their Digicel mobiles

Digicel PNG has begun pre-registering customers for a groundbreaking new mobile banking service “cellmoni”, which will offer Papua New Guineans a range of financial services including the ability to transfer money to friends and family anywhere in PNG.

cellmoni, which will launch in July, will see Digicel phones transformed into electronic wallets and allows customers to deposit or withdraw cash using their mobiles at a nationwide network of agents, pay bills and transfer money to any Digicel mobile in the country.

The service is regulated by the Reserve Bank of PNG and is already live in Digicel markets in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and Haiti. cellmoni has been developed by Digicel in partnership with the Pacific Financial Inclusion Fund (PFIF) with a view to promoting financial inclusion within PNG and the region. .
Pre-registration for cellmoni is free and can be completed by sending an SMS to 888 and then replying with First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, Occupation, Village, Province and the Customer’s preferred Password (called “secret word”). Registration will be confirmed by
SMS and those who pre-register before will be entered into a draw to win free credit with a total value of K250,000.

John Mangos; “Digicel cellmoni will transform the way people receive, handle, transfer money and pay bills in PNG and we giving our customers the opportunity to express their interest now by pre-registering so they can be the first to avail of this service, which will save them time and money. Digicel Mobile Money services have been hugely successful in Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and in Haiti. We believe cellmoni will have an even bigger impact here in PNG where more than 4.5 million Papua New Guineans have Digicel mobile coverage and the majority live in rural areas.”

In January 2011 Digicel’s “Tcho Tcho” Mobile Money service in Haiti was awarded a US$2.5 million prize by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the U.S. Government Agency for International Development (USAID).

Full details of the network of official agents where lodgments and withdrawals can be made and more information on cellmoni’s full suite of services will be announced when the service is launched.. Terms and Conditions are available on www.digicelpng.com or by calling 123.
