Vying for the Miss PNG has taken a twist this year from income earning to personal development while luring a major sponsor.
 
Digicel PNG jumped ahead of others yesterday to embrace the quest with a K80,000 sponsorship as an official major sponsor.
 
The telecommunications company will also be sponsoring one of the nine entrants with K30,000.
The chief executive officer of Digicel PNG, John Mangos, said his company was proud to be an official sponsor of the quest this year. "We believe that this will go along way in assisting the PNGRCS further their exellent work towards helping vulnerable members in our society," he said.
 
Committee chairwoman Suzannah Davis said applications close on June 27 and screening had started.She said the launch happens tomorrow and the nine contestants will be announced. "Unlike before Miss PNG contested for  the income earning , now it is changed to the personal development".She said the winner would be an ambassador for her organisation and the country.Ms Davis said this had to do with behavioural change , personal development physically and spiritually.
 
Acting secretary general of PNGRCS, thanked Digicel PNG for being the first official sponsor and that money raised would go to Red Cross programs to help vulnerable people in their communities and build resilient communities in PNG.He has invited corporate citizens to sponsor an entrant and support the cause.
