THE Digicel Urban Bounce dance competition completed its successful second year in Port Moresby on Sunday night.
The Port Moresby Country Club was jam packed with parents and noisy children.
The Port Moresby Country Club was jam packed with parents and noisy children.
All gunning for their favourite dance crews in what has clearly become the only real large scale entertainment event especially for families.
Our dancing hopefuls began their journey with auditions on the 27th of June and throughout the heats , our kids of Port Moresby were able to witness the skill, determination and acrobatic flair of teams.
Groups such as 5137’s, Underducks, Bounce Unit, Scarf Clowns, Jokers, Zombies, Mr.Soux, Creed, Crazy Bounce, Break Machines, XB’s, Blazing Infinity, Anxiety, Amity Crew, A2J, Exclusive Breakers, Crosbies and G-Unit.
The 2009 champions Creed were the team to beat this year.
But it was clear that they would not have an easy run this year as the standard of dancing moved up a notch.
There were new exciting crews this year like 5137’s with the only female performing in the competition.
Some of last year’s favourite like the Scarf Clowns and Crazy Bounce did not fire up as much as much this year which gave way to new crews like the young and energetic Underducks and the classy Amity Crew.
To top the competition off, we were able to see new types of talents emerging within the competition like Russel I; the beatboxer extraordinaire from the Zombies crew.
And underscoring the whole event with his beats and scratches and crowd pumping music was our very own DJ, AKay47.
The grand final was judged by UPNG Creative Arts Lecturer Martin Tony, Sheelagh Doyle from Digicel and our well loved Governor from NCDC, Powes Parkop.
With so much talent, the difference in some scores was only by one point, but only one winner could emerge.
With class, flair and with a well-dressed cheer squad on the night, Amity Crew came in to win the K10, 000 prize money for the first place in the Digicel Urban Bounce 2010.
Second place with prize money of K5,000 was the Exclusive Breakers and the following teams respectively were; Anxiety, Zombies, Creed and Underducks.
Event organizers- www.rokrokmusic.com and Next of Kin Productions have been thankful of the support and initiative of Digicel PNG who have driven the whole event to its new high on Sunday.
And are certain that more is to come in 2011 with Digicel’s support of youth-oriented events.
