TOP ATHLETES OPEN DIGICEL GO FOR GOLD VAULT
September 27th 2011 - Gold medallists set to claim K21 000 in total from Digicel Go For Gold vaultThe Digicel Go for Gold money vault sealed with a massive K82 500 at the end of the 2011 Pacific Games has now been opened and 11 of PNG’s leading athletes have accepted the first of payments from Team PNG’s major Sponsor, Digicel.
Six of the athletes were on hand to open the Digicel Go for Gold vault at the Digicel Head Office in Port Moresby to collect their well deserved share from the K82 500 offered by Digicel through its Go For Gold Incentive. Each of the six athletes were rewarded accordingly and walked away happily with K11 250 in total.
The 11 gold medal athletes who have accepted payment were; South Pacific’s number one hurdler Mowen Boino, Nelson Stone from 400 metres track, Jack Viyufa from body building, Jack Willie from boxing, Melissa Turia from Karate and Powerlifters Linda Pulsan, Kalau Andrew, Meteng Wak, Melissa Tikio, Livingstone Sikoli and Kenny Naime.
Digicel PNG Operations Director Lorna McPherson said, “Digicel’s is passionate about its support to Team PNG and it is extremely important we work in close partnership with the PNG Sports Federation and Olympic Committee to ensure that we fully enforce our support towards the Team. We are therefore delighted to release the first of our Go for Gold payments to our 11 gold medal winners and we congratulate them for their achievements”.
PNG Sports Federation and Olympic Committee Secretary General Avuita Rapilla said, “We acknowledge Digicel for this incentive and their professional approach with their sponsorship. I'm sure our athletes are grateful for this bonus in addition to their gold medals for their outstanding performance in Noumea".
The Digicel Go for Gold incentive program developed by Team PNG’s Major sponsor was set to see Gold Medal winning athletes receive a payment of K1500 per individual Gold, with Teams that achieve the highest honour sharing a K3000 payment.
