The Digicel Go for Gold vault has blown out to a massive K84, 000 as Team PNG recorded its best ever performance in the Pacific Games collecting a total of 49 golds. With 42 individual and 7 team golds, Team PNG athletes with the highest honour will be rewarded accordingly by major sponsor Digicel, later this week.

For Team PNG, athletics was documented as the jewel in the crown for PNG following a spectacular 15 Gold medal haul in track events dominated by PNG’s female athletes throughout the game.

Hurdler Mowen Boino also stamped his mark on the field again to prove he that he is the premier hurdler of the Pacific and took out Gold in the 110m and 400m hurdles while Toea Wisil was crowned as new sprint queen of the pacific after she claimed the 100m, 200m and 400m finals before anchoring the team in 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Weightlifting followed close behind as second best sport when athletes from the sport reaped up a total of 14 Gold medals for PNG.

In other team events, the Cricket and women’s soccer team reigned supreme once again while Taekwondo and women’s tennis doubles also won Gold for PNG.

The Digicel Go for Gold incentive program developed by Team PNG’s Major sponsor will see each Gold Medal winning athlete receive a payment of K1500 per individual Gold, with Teams that achieve the highest honour sharing a K3000 payment.
