Team PNG received a major lift at the start of the second week of 14th Pacific Games as three female weightlifters snatched a remarkable eight gold medals between them, lifting the Digicel Go for Gold Vault to K28,500.

The golden day for weightlifting started with Dika Toua taking the clean sweep of all three Golds available in the 53kg division, followed by Kathleen Hare taking two more in the 48kg section, while 2007 veteran Rita Kari finished off a remarkable day by adding three more Golds from the 63kg category.  The girls won the support of the Nation and pocketed K12,000 between them from major sponsor Digicel.

With the Cricket Team taking Gold on Friday evening and the golden glove heros Jack Willie and Junior Raka Kauka adding two more on Saturday from boxing, Team PNG’s Gold medal tally now stands at 18 across six separate sports.

The Digicel Go for Gold incentive program developed by Team PNG’s Major sponsor will see each Gold Medal winning athlete receive a payment of K1500 per individual Gold, with Teams that achieve the highest honour sharing a K3000 payment.
